Show Me The Numbers

Show Me the Numbers.
Somewhere along the way, social media convinced business owners that the most important number was follower count. 10K followers. 100K followers. Viral reels.
But as I’ve grown in business and helped clients grow theirs, I’ve realized the numbers that actually matter often look very different.
As I’m writing this, I’m thinking of that famous line from Jerry Maguire…"Show me the money” and hearing "Show me the numbers” in that same tone and excitement.
I remember when I first started in the world of social media, I wanted to be the one with the 100K followers. I was being trained by women who had that many followers, and I wanted that status too. I wanted people to land on my account and be impressed and feel like I was who they needed to follow.
My mindset has shifted, and honestly, I’m at peace with that shift now. I want you to feel okay with that change too.
Social media often gives the “everything has to be perfect" and “you need to have 30K followers” vibe. Don’t get me wrong, I believe in having a polished style, correct grammar, and a consistent presence, but progress over perfection is what you need to remember. For the 30K followers, anything is possible, but my suggestion is not to get stuck on that number.
We all have different business models, and for me, I am enjoying a steady growth of my own online presence. When I had big following numbers in mind, my stress level was high.
I was trying to keep up.
Trying to prove myself.
Trying to be visible everywhere all at once.
What I found was that maintaining that pace required an enormous amount of time and energy devoted to content creation every single day. I’ve since learned that it’s not necessarily the strategy I want or even need. What works for me may not work for you, and what works for you may not work for me, and that is perfectly fine.
Not every business owner wants to become an influencer…nor should they have to.
Some people simply want:
a polished online presence
clear messaging
consistent visibility
a marketing system that helps generate inquiries and sales without spending hours online every day.
There is nothing wrong with building your business that way.
The numbers that matter most are often the ones connected to actual business growth and meaningful connection.
When it comes to the numbers, remember:
The number of followers and likes does not indicate your success level. Followers may increase over time, but success for you may mean…1K followers and 10 solid clients, or it could mean 20K followers with 118 services provided that month.
Analytics are numbers that can tell you a lot. What time of day is best for your content or even which type of content resonates better than others?
The number of times you post per week depends on your business goals, your available time to commit to a consistent schedule, and even the type of your business.
Instead of obsessing over follower count alone, here are some numbers that can actually tell you whether your online presence is supporting your business:
Website clicks
Inquiry forms submitted
Email subscribers joining your list
Replies to newsletters or posts
Saves and shares from potential clients
Consultation bookings
Repeat clients
Referrals
Conversion rates
Engagement from the right audience
At the end of the day, success online is not measured by one number.
It’s measured by whether your online presence is helping support your business, connect with the right people, and create opportunities that align with the life you actually want to live.
That’s the kind of growth I’m interested in now 🧡
