It’s Not You…It’s Your Marketing
It’s not a lack of effort…it’s a lack of structure.
“What I have noticed is the lack of an appropriate system.”
Earlier this week, I shared a post on my social platforms about a pattern I have noticed 👀 over and over when working with overwhelmed small business owners. In today's newsletter, I'm expanding upon this, so you have actionable steps to take.
❎The patten isn't laziness.
❎It isn't a lack of motivation.
❎It isn't a lack of ability.
What I have noticed is the lack of an appropriate system. I say “appropriate” because the goal is not to copy someone else’s strategy. It’s to build one that fits you and your business.
Marketing starts to feel overwhelming when:
Being on every platform seems necessary
You feel like you are constantly working against the algorithm
Posting “anything” is better than posting nothing
You force someone else's system to work for you
Planning is reactive, not proactive
You know there is a better method, but you don't know where to start
If you have worked with me, you've probably heard me say that my goal is to get your marketing running like a “well-oiled machine" ⚙️ Not a saying I say anywhere but in this situation, but it fits my mindset when I am helping clients to streamline their processes.
➡️When there is no clear marketing system, everything becomes an urgent “right now” situation.
➡️When everything feels urgent, it becomes overwhelming.
➡️When marketing feels overwhelming, it gets avoided, resented, and even forgotten.
Most business owners I work with are very capable; they just don't have a system.
So, how do you go from overwhelmed to streamlined? Start here:
Evaluate your platforms. Where are your people and what is worth your time?
Don't blame the algorithm. Get curious and figure out how to work with it.
Make sure your content has a purpose.
Adopt a system that works for YOU and not someone else
Carve out time to plan, instead of posting reactively
Often, we're not far away from feeling calm and grounded. Overwhelm tends to overpower everything.
If your marketing has felt more overwhelming than usual, don't be hard on yourself. It may not be the lack of effort that needs attention. It may be a simple structure.
