The Small Ways We Waste Big Time

A mix of real life and work moments.

“Time is precious…and it’s also very easy to waste if you’re not paying attention.”

A few thoughts that jumped out to me recently:

⌚Time flies.

⌚Time is precious.

⌚Time is easily wasted.

I watched my four little nephews and one little niece hunt for Easter eggs last weekend with so much joy…while also missing my three older nephews we didn’t see this year. They were off doing some really cool things around the country, and traveling home wasn't in the cards.

Time flies… I can still picture those boys (now men) doing the exact same thing…hunting for their eggs and presents. A bit bittersweet🥹

And then there were a few behind-the-scenes moments over the past couple of weeks that got me. The kind where I quietly said to myself…

  • “OMG, Amy… did you really just do that?”

  • “Why did you do that?”

  • “You’re being ridiculous.”

Fully honest and transparent here 🫣.

I always say, "Haste makes waste." And lately? I had to take my own advice.

In my day-to-day work the same things I tell my clients not to do… I did. And…they wasted my time.

Let’s talk about a few of MY recent marketing time wasters:

  1. Writing a great caption directly on Instagram… and losing it 🙄
The hook was strong; my ideas were flowing… I was in my groove. Then one scroll later…it was gone. Completely gone. Rewriting it? Yes…more time wasted.

  2. Not naming my Canva files properly🙄 When you create as much content as I do, this really matters. I found myself scrolling…and scrolling…and scrolling just to find one thing. This was a major time drain.

  3. Skipping my daily planning🙄 I’m huge on planning my week. It’s seriously one of my best productivity tools. But on a few recent days, I didn’t prep ahead. And…I didn't like it…at all! I spent my most peak productivity hours reacting instead of doing. This cost me my time and my energy.

Honest transparency here. This is how we learn. We mess up, we realize it, and then we adjust it.

Here is your reminder (and mine 😉)…pay attention to your time wasters 👀.

⌛Write your content/captions in advance in a notes app on your phone or computer.

⌛Create an organized naming/labeling system for your files, images, and graphics.

⌛Carve out time in advance to plan and get yourself organized for the upcoming week. Your future self will be grateful.

Time is precious… and it’s also very easy to waste if you’re not paying attention.
